Mischa Anne Marsden Barton, (born 24 Jan. 1986 (24 years ago)) is a British-American film, TV, and stage actress, perhaps best known for her role as Marissa Cooper in the American TV series The O.C.

When asked in interviews if she feels English or American, she states she feels English.

Endorsements

Barton has been in many TV commercials and print advertising campaigns. Barton has modeled for companies Calvin Klein, bebe stores, Aéropostale, Monsoon Accessorize, Dooney & Bourke, JC (Jeans and Clothes), European clothing line Morgan de Toi, Jaspal, and Neutrogena skincare products. She became the spokesperson for Keds Sneakers, substantially increasing their sales. In Australia, she appears in commercials for teen magazine Famous and was the guest of honour at retail giant David Jones Tahitian Summer Collection launch. She has also modeled jewelry for the company Waxing Poetic.

In 2007 (3 years ago), Barton also became a spokesperson for the SAFE (Skin Awareness for Everyone) campaign. In addition, she lent her name to the TRAID campaign (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development) in association with Visa Swap. Early years

Mischa Barton was born in Hammersmith, London, United Kingdom to an Irish mother, Nuala (née Quinn), a photographer, and an English father, Paul Marsden Barton, a foreign exchange broker. She has two sisters, younger Hania and elder Zoe, a barrister in London. Barton moved to New York City at the age of five and became a naturalised citizen of the United States in Los Angeles on 3 Feb. 2006 (4 years ago). Barton graduated from the Professional Children's School in Manhattan in 2004 (6 years ago), and took a summer short course called Acting Shakespeare at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in Jun. and Jul. 2006 (4 years ago), at Sir Richard Attenborough's urging, after he directed her in Closing the Ring.

Career

Barton began acting at the age of eight (as she said on The Friday Night Project), co-starring in the Off Broadway premiere of Slavs!, written by Tony Kushner. She appeared in several other Off Broadway productions, taking a lead role in James Lapine's Twelve Dreams at Lincoln Center. She made her movie debut in Lawn Dogs, which won awards at movie festivals around the world. Since then, she has appeared in several films, such as The Sixth Sense, Notting Hill, St Trinians, and Closing the Ring. In St Trinians, she appeared as a former head girl of that school advising current senior pupils on fashion and style. Barton first appeared on TV in 1996 (14 years ago), as young Lily Montgomery in the soap opera All My Children, and in a modern re-make of Bonnie and Clyde. She guest-starred in eight episodes of the TV series Once and Again as Jessie Sammler's (Evan Rachel Wood's) girlfriend, Katie Singer. Other TV appearances include an episode of the Fox series Fastlane, James Blunt's music video "Goodbye My Lover", and Enrique Iglesias' music video "Addicted".

In Aug. 2003 (7 years ago), Fox premiered the TV series The O.C., about affluent teenagers with stormy personal lives who reside in scenic Orange County, California. The show became an overnight success due to its large fanbase, and resulted in Barton's fame being increased through her role as Marissa Cooper. Barton departed from the show in the third-season finale in May 2006 (4 years ago). The O.C. dropped in ratings dramatically during its third and fourth seasons, and ended in early 2007 (3 years ago).

In Jul. 2006 (4 years ago), Barton appeared on the British comedy variety show The Friday Night Project as a guest host. In 2007 (3 years ago), Barton appeared in the movie The Oh in Ohio, and again in Closing the Ring. She also appeared in the R-rated comedy movie Virgin Territory with Hayden Christensen. Later in 2007 (3 years ago), Barton was cast in the international movie produced by the Russian band t.A.T.u., called You and I.

In 2008 (2 years ago), Barton appeared on the popular show Gok's Fashion Fix on Channel 4. In the episode, Gok goes on an exclusive shopping trip in Paris with Mischa. She was filming Bhopal: Prayer for Rain in India alongside Martin Sheen. She appeared in Assassination of a High School President, co-starring Bruce Willis (4 walls), when the movie premiered at the 2008 (2 years ago) Sundance movie Festival. She has completed filming Walled In, Homecoming and Don't Fade Away, which are all expected to be released in 2009 (last year). You and I and Assassination of a High School President are also scheduled to be released in 2009 (last year). It has been widely reported that Barton is in talks to join the cast of the hit TV series Ugly Betty in a 5-episode guest appearance. In a dec. 2007 (3 years ago) interview, she indicated that she would return to TV for the right project; "It's not that I dislike doing TV at all. It would be interesting having more creative control over where the storylines go or the characters. But for the right thing, of course."

In 2009 (last year), Barton starred in the psychological thriller, Homecoming, alongside 90210's Jessica Stroup and Matt Long (Jack & Bobby). However, due to a medical issue, she was unable to attend the premiere. Barton was recently cast in The Science of Cool. According to reports, she will also be starring in A Beautiful Life a new series on The CW.

Relationships

Barton's previous boyfriends have included Cisco Adler, Taylor Locke, Jamie Dornan, Brett Simon, and Brandon Davis. In dec. 2008 (2 years ago), there were reports that she was dating The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard. The reports were confirmed during the relationship by Pritchard; Barton only confirmed the relationship after the pair split in Mar. 2009 (last year), writing on her blog: "I think Luke is a great guy, but the type better suited as a friend. We have a surprising amount of mutual friends in England and I don't regret our time together, I just couldn't keep it going."

At one point, Mischa Barton had a fairly promising career. The OC was a hit, she was scoring endorsement deals, and seemed like the next big thing. Now she is moving from L.A. to London with new boyfriend DJ Ali Love, and is known more for her turbulent personal life than any recent acting work. Linking up with Amy Winehouse should only help that. The UK wild child met a fellow fallen star with wasted potential at a Camden pub yesterday. Soon enough, there was some locking of lips involved. The supposedly-reformed pair were spotted shaking hands then kissing each other before enjoying a chat over a drink or 20. This cannot end well. Amy and Mischa have plenty of common ground to bond over. Winehouse is said to be clean after a high-profile battle with drugs, while Barton announced she is going straight following her most recent DUI arrest. Of course, both have done stints in hospitals and rehab. Mischa Barton was placed on involuntary psychiatric hold last year after a meltdown at home. Now in London to spend time with DJ Ali Love, her new boyfriend, Barton said she's being healthy and has been reading scripts for new acting roles. She told the Daily Mail on Sunday: "I’m avoiding drinking, which is a shame as there’s nothing better than a glass of delicious English Pimm’s." Wino, who is dating Reg Traviss, can't make the same claim. After meeting Mischa last night, the Back to Black songstress headed to central London, hitting Balans bar where she stayed for hours, ordering champagne and cocktails, before dancing and singing her way to nearby Chinatown. She returned home at 11:30 this morning in the same clothes.
