Biography for Eva Longoria Parker

Eva Jacqueline Parker (born Mar. 15, 1975 (35 years ago)) is an American movie and TV actress. She portrayed Isabella Braña Williams on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. She currently plays Gabrielle Solis in the ABC TV series Desperate Housewives. She has also become a nationally recognized model after appearing in several high-profile advertising campaigns and numerous men's magazines, reaching #14 in the FHM "Sexiest Women 2008" poll. Longoria is also known for her relationship with NBA guard Tony Parker, whom she married in 2007 (3 years ago).

Early years

Eva Jacqueline Longoria was born in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, the daughter of Mexican American parents, Enrique Longoria, Jr. and Ella Eva Mireles.

Longoria is the youngest of four daughters, her sisters being Elizabeth Judina, Emily Jeannette and Esmeralda Josephina. The family lived and worked on a farmland that had been handed down to them from past generations, but they often had very little money; Enrique and Ella struggled for many years to give their children a decent upbringing. On The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006 (4 years ago), Longoria shared with viewers an introspective look into the hardships she faced in her formative years while growing up poor; she took cameras on location to the family farm and showed how spartan their life had been. Longoria admitted that only when she had made it in show business, did things begin to look better for her family financially. In another interview with Dateline's Stone Phillips, she also revealed the snubbing she had received from her siblings. "I grew up as the ugly duckling. They used to call me 'la prieta fea,' which means 'the ugly dark one,'" Longoria said.

Longoria originally wanted to be a fashion model and sent in photos to a modeling agency but was declined because of her height. Longoria attended Marvin P. Baker Middle School and later Roy Miller High School; she subsequently received her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology at nearby Texas A&M University-Kingsville. During this time, she won the title of Miss Corpus Christi, USA in 1998 (12 years ago). After completing college, Longoria entered a talent contest that led her to Los Angeles; shortly after, she was spotted and signed by a theatrical agent.

Career

Longoria landed her first TV role in 2000 (10 years ago), guest-starring in an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. Another guest appearance in General Hospital the same year brought her big break on the popular American soap opera The Young and the Restless, in which she played psychotic Isabella Braña Williams from 2001 (9 years ago) to 2003 (7 years ago). People en Español listed her among its "Most Beautiful People" for 2003 (7 years ago). After leaving The Young and the Restless, she was seen on the now-cancelled Dick Wolf revival of Dragnet. Although it lasted only two seasons, the show gave Longoria another leading star credit to her name. Following Dragnet, she starred in two ill-fated productions - Señorita Justice, a poorly received direct-to-video film, and a TV movie titled The Dead Will Tell. In 2004 (6 years ago), Longoria landed a role that elevated her to the A-List. She starred as adulteress Gabrielle Solis in the worldwide break-out ABC hit Desperate Housewives. As the show became an overnight sensation, Longoria's career was well and truly launched. But she has never considered her career to have jumped off so suddenly: "I think it’s funny when people say I’m an overnight sensation, because I’ve been working at it for 10 years."

Shortly after her debut on Desperate Housewives, Longoria starred in a poorly received direct-to-video movie titled Carlita's Secret, for which she was also co-producer. In 2005 (5 years ago), she was rewarded for her performance as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives when she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series - Musical or Comedy along with her co-stars. Even though neither Longoria nor any of the rest of the cast won, she was awarded the ALMA Award and named entertainer of the year. She also starred opposite Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland in the 2006 (4 years ago) thriller The Sentinel, which was her first major role in a theatrical movie. In 2006 (4 years ago) she played the character Sylvia in Harsh Times starring Freddy Rodriguez and Christian Bale.

Longoria continues to be included in lists of Hollywood's Most Beautiful and was listed #1 in Maxim's Hottest Female Stars of 2005 (5 years ago) and 2006 (4 years ago), becoming the first woman to top the list in two consecutive years. She was ranked #9 in the magazine's Hot 100 of 2007 (3 years ago) list. In honor of Maxim's 100th issue in 2006 (4 years ago), Longoria was featured on a 75-by-110-foot vinyl mesh replica of its Jan. 2005 (5 years ago) cover located in the Las Vegas desert. It has been rumored that she will play Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp in the upcoming Avengers movie due to the fact that she has been spotted reading core Avengers titles such as The New Avengers annual and Marvel (16 walls) Adventures: Avengers.

Longoria is being considered to portray Mariah Carey (28 walls) in an upcoming Broadway show which is about the American pop singer. Leona Lewis (3 walls) is Carey's first choice. Vanessa Hudgens (26 walls) and Longoria Parker are also being considered if Lewis does not take the job.

In Apr. 2009 (last year), Longoria topped People en Español Los 50 Más Bellos list. She was featured on the cover alongside Maite Perroni and Ana Bárbara.

Longoria is also attached to appear, and executive-produce, a movie currently titled "1954". This movie is inspired by the life of Puerto Rican Lolita Lebrón..

Personal life

Longoria was married to General Hospital star Tyler Christopher from 2002 (8 years ago) to 2004 (6 years ago).

On Nov. 30, 2006 (4 years ago), Longoria became engaged to Spurs point guard Tony Parker. The couple were officially married on Friday, Jul. 6, 2007 (3 years ago), because French law requires couples who marry to make their vows official at a city hall. They had their lavish church wedding on Saturday Jul. 7, 2007 (3 years ago), in Paris. Their marriage had its first ordeal when the French model Alexandra Paressant claimed to have had an affair with Parker.

In 2008 (2 years ago), Longoria opened a restaurant in Los Angeles called Beso, which means "kiss" in Spanish.

Longoria owns a house in Los Angeles' Hollywood Dell neighborhood that she purchased in 2006 (4 years ago) for $3.6 million. She also owns a house in the Velano Country Club in Chino Hills, California.

When Desperate Housewives comes to an end, she plans to move to France with her husband.

Charity work

In 2006 (4 years ago), Longoria founded Eva's Heroes, a charity which helps developmentally disabled children. She is the national spokesperson for PADRES Contra El Cancer. She signed shoes for the Spirit of Women Red Shoe Celebrity Auction. Longoria also supports the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the National Stroke Association, Project HOME and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Longoria is also an executive producer of Shine Global Inc.'s upcoming documentary The Harvest which is focused on the 500,000 child migrant farm workers in the U.S. and is currently helping them fundraise for the film.

Clay Aiken Asks Fans To Donate To Pakistan

Written by Tim Saunders Clay Aiken has recorded a video for UNICEF, calling on fans to lend a hand in any way they can to help those affected by Pakistan’s devastating floods. “Right now, more than four million children are caught in the aftermath of the worst flood in Pakistan’s history,” says the UNICEF ambassador. "Homeless, hungry, traumatized — they need clean water, medicine and shelter to survive. “UNICEF has saved the lives of more children than any other organization in the world, and we have been helping the children of Pakistan for over 60 years. We can stop kids dying needlessly, but we need your help. UNICEF is funded entirely by donations — your contributions go to provide the water, medicine and protection the children of Pakistan need to survive.” Clay Aiken has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2004. He has travelled to Banda Aceh, Indonesia and Kabul and Bamyan in Afghanistan, raising awareness and funds in support of education. Taylor Swift Donates To New Playground

Written by Tim Saunders Country superstar Taylor Swift has donated US$100,000 to build a new playground in the town where she went to school. The money will help rebuild the facility destroyed by floods earlier this year in Hendersonville, Tennessee. “It’s overwhelming,” the director of the city’s parks, Dave LeMarbre, told the Hendersonville Star-News. “We didn’t expect that. We appreciate Taylor’s donation as well as all the others who have stepped up.” The playground is expected to cost $175,000. With the men evoking such Hollywood icons as Cary Grant and Clark Gable, the women hit the carpet in gowns that harked back to the golden era of the silver screen, thanks to retro silhouettes and an emphasis on glamour. Kim Kardashian paid homage to Elizabeth Taylor in a white Marchesa dress with a halter neckline and cape detailing and a big cuff by Lorraine Schwartz. "Glee" star Amber Riley took that same route, however, co-star Dianna Agron may have gone a bit too retro in a lilac-and-black-lace tiered dress that screamed "Gone With the Wind." Lea Michele hit the mark in Oscar de la Renta, even if the fit was a bit off. Her strapless navy ruched gown certainly made a statement with its crazy skirt and a diamond choker by Lorraine Schwartz. Keeping it with the Gleeks, the guys went standard-issue red carpet, thanks to tailored dark suits, but Kevin McHale made the look all his own with his thick-framed glasses and gold bow tie. Then, there were the actors who vamped up the carpet. "True Blood" stars Rutina Wesley and Carrie Preston went bold in their printed gowns, but none as bold as Anna Paquin, who was gladiator chic in her Alexander McQueen gown with black and gold sequins. She also had the ultimate accessory, co-star and hubby Stephen Moyer, who kept it stylish in a suit and tie. "Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev dazzled in a champagne ruched, one-shoulder gown with sparse beading that sparkled in just the right places. The cast of "Mad Men" also made bold statements on the carpet. The über-voluptuous Christina Hendricks played to all her assets in a lilac '40s-silhouette gown with feather detailing on the sleeves and hem, courtesy of Zac Posen. January Jones' Versace blue strapless dress complete with fishtail will leave fashionistas split, thanks to its forward-thinking styling. Jon Hamm had girls swooning and wishing they were in girlfriend Jennifer Westfeld's shoes in his well-tailored suit and bow tie. Other red-carpet standouts included "Modern Family" star Julie Bowen in a navy, asymmetrical, strapless dress with peplum detailing. Kelly Osbourne also played it vintage in her '40s-style black gown by Tony Ward. Not-so-desperate housewife Eva Longoria wore a black strapless dress with a detailed ruffle skirt by Robert Rodriguez, and Claire Danes rocked a gold-and-nude sequined, strapless Armani Prive dress with hanging stud earrings.
