  • Ray Winstone as Matt Jedburgh, a CIA officer sent to cover up the murder. Robert De Niro (6 walls) had been cast in the role, but he walked out just after he arrived to begin shooting, due to creative differences.
  • Danny Huston as Bennett, a shady businessman.
  • Bojana Novakovic plays Emma Craven, Thomas' murdered daughter.
  • Shawn Roberts plays Terry Shields, her boyfriend.
  • Gbenga Akinnagbe plays a detective in Thomas' squad.

Production

In 2002 (8 years ago), Martin Campbell announced that he was planning to adapt Edge of Darkness for the cinema. Active development began in early 2007 (3 years ago) when Campbell met with producer Graham King, who first enlisted Australian playwright Andrew Bovell to write, and then William Monahan (fresh from winning an Academy Award for King's The Departed) to re-write the screenplay. Michael Wearing and the BBC are also co-producing the film. Filming began on Aug. 18, 2008 (2 years ago) in Boston, Massachusetts. A scene where Craven scatters his daughter's ashes at a beach was filmed at Rockport on Sep. 25 and 26.They shot some scenes in Merrimac, Massachusetts from Sep. 15, 2008 (2 years ago) to Sep. 18, 2008 (2 years ago).

Additionally, Gibson and his crew set up shop for filming in western Massachusetts, reportedly staying in Northampton. They shot in various locations in the Pioneer Valley, including Tully O'Reilly's Pub and the Northampton Athletic Club, both in Northampton. Also, Sugarloaf Mountain was shut down for a few days while they rented it out. They also filmed at the Notch Visitor Center, Rt. 116, Amherst.

The cast of Green Lantern has expanded by one. The Hollywood Reporter says Tim Robbins has signed on to play Peter Sarsgaard's father in the action film based on the DC Comics. Martin Campbell, director of Edge of Darkness, Casino Royale, and The Legend of Zorro, is set to helm the film which is heading into production next month. According to THR, Robbins will play Senator Hammond, father of Dr Hector Hammond (Sarsgaard), the main villain of Green Lantern. When asked recently about the rumor there will be two villains, director Campbell told me, ""No, no, no, no, no. Don't listen to that nonsense." Campbell went on to explain the basic storyline: "I'll tell you what. Get the origin story, read that, and you'll be pretty much on target. Well, you know, it varies slightly. But it's pretty much the origin story of Green Lantern." Mel Gibson Calls Reporter Asshole on Air The Hollywood Gossip - 37 days ago
Mel Gibson did not take too kindly to questioning from a Chicago TV reporter yesterday and hurled an insult at him once he thought the camera was off. It was not. A frustrated Mel was on WGN-TV promoting his new film, Edge of Darkness, but kept being hit with questions about ... well, you knew it would come up. Asked about his drunk, anti-Semitic rampage from 2006 and whether he thinks people view him differently, Mel grew increasingly annoyed via satellite. After an awkward minute or so, the WGN reporter wrapped up the interview with the actor, told folks to see Mel's movie, and that appeared to be that. Until Mel, apparently thinking the interview was over, took a swig of his coffee and called the guy an "asshole." Seriously. It's amazing. Check it out: Mel Gibson Goes Off

Director Martin Campbell revisits the world of a father out for vengeance in Edge of Darkness, a thriller starring Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone. Campbell actually directed the award-winning BBC miniseries the film's based on, and he was fine with tackling the story once again in a feature film - as soon as the script was just right. At the LA premiere of the Warner Bros Pictures release, Campbell talked about directing Gibson in his return to acting after a seven year absence. Campbell also graciously answered a few of my Green Lantern questions. The internet's been abuzz with speculation over just who and how many villains will be in Campbell's Green Lantern. When I asked him if there will be two villains, Campbell replied, "No, no, no, no, no. Don't listen to that nonsense." So, what should fans be listening to? Campbell had this suggestion: "Well, I'll tell you what. Get the origin story, read that, and you'll be pretty much on target. Well, you know, it varies slightly.
