Information about Eminem

Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born Oct. 17, 1972 (38 years ago)), known by his primary stage name Eminem, or by his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American rapper, record producer and actor. Eminem quickly gained popularity in 1999 (11 years ago) with his major-label debut album The Slim Shady LP, which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The following album, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the fastest-selling hip hop album in history. It brought Eminem increased popularity, including his own record label, Shady Records, and brought his group project D12 to mainstream recognition.

The Marshall Mathers LP and his third album, The Eminem Show, also won Grammy Awards, and in 2002 (8 years ago), he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for a song in the movie 8 Mile, in which he also played the lead. Eminem then went on hiatus after touring in 2005 (5 years ago). He released his first album since 2004's Encore, titled Relapse, on May 15, 2009 (last year). Eminem has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide, and worldwide is the best selling music artist of the 2000 (10 years ago). Eminem is also ranked in the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine. He was also named the Best Rapper Ever By Vibe Magazine.

Personal life

Family

Marshall Mathers has often been subject of much scrutiny as a rapper as well in his personal life. He was married twice to Kimberley Anne Scott, whom he met in high school. They began their on-and-off relationship in 1989 (21 years ago), getting married by 1999 (11 years ago). Their first divorce was in 2001 (9 years ago). In 2000 (10 years ago), Scott attempted suicide and sued the rapper for defamation after he depicted her violent death in his song "Kim". They remarried in 2006 (4 years ago) but divorced again less than three months later, agreeing to share custody of their daughter, Hailie Jade Scott (born Dec. 25, 1995 (15 years ago)). Hailie Scott has often been referenced or featured on various songs of Eminem, such as "'97 Bonnie & Clyde", "Hailie's Song", "My Dad's Gone Crazy", "Mockingbird", "Forgot About Dre", "Cleanin' Out My Closet", "When I'm Gone", "Deja vu", and "Beautiful".

Mathers adopted two other daughters: Alaina "Lainey" Mathers, the child of Kimberley Scott's sister, and Whitney Mathers, Eminem's step daughter.

Legal troubles

In 1999 (11 years ago) Mathers' mother sued him for around US$10 million over alleged slander about her in his lyrics regarding The Slim Shady LP; she won only about US$1,600 in damages in 2001 (9 years ago).

Mathers was arrested on Jun. 3, 2000 (10 years ago) during an altercation at a car audio store in Royal Oak, Michigan, with Douglas Dail, where he pulled out an unloaded gun and kept it pointed at the ground. The following day, in Warren, Michigan, he allegedly saw his then wife, Kim, kiss bouncer John Guerrera in the parking lot of the Hot Rock Café so he assaulted him. He was given two years probation for both the episodes.

In the summer of 2001 (9 years ago), Mathers' legal troubles continued, as he was given probation on weapons charges that stemmed from an argument with an employee of Psychopathic Records, giving him a fine around $2,000 as well as several hours of community service.

In 2007 (3 years ago) Eminem's music publishing company Eight Mile Style LLC together with Martin Affiliated LLC filed suit against Apple, Inc and Aftermath Entertainment claiming Aftermath did not have the appropriate authority to negotiate a deal with Apple for digital downloads of 93 songs by rapper Eminem on Apple's iTunes service. The case against Apple went to trial in late Sep. 2009 (last year) and was settled a few days later.

Drug issues

His group-mate Proof from D12 stated that Mathers "sobered up" in 2002 (8 years ago) from drug and alcohol dependence. However, he did turn to zolpidem sleeping pills for relief from sleeping troubles. This caused Mathers to cancel the European leg of the Anger Management Tour in Aug. 2005 (5 years ago) and eventually go into rehab for treatment for a "dependency on sleep medication". In a 2009 (last year) interview with British talk-show host Jonathan Ross, Mathers admitted that at the height of his addiction, he considered suicide, saying that "I just wasn't taking care of myself, at times I wanted to just give it up." He also confirmed that he is now sober, commenting that "[R]ap was my drug... Then I had to resort to other things to make me feel that. Now rap's getting me high again."

Conflict with Mariah Carey

Eminem has written several songs referring to a relationship with pop singer Mariah Carey (27 walls), although she denies the claim. Songs Eminem has referenced her on include "Superman", "Jimmy Crack Corn", "Bagpipes From Baghdad", and "The Warning". While "Superman" was released in 2003 (7 years ago), Carey released a song entitled "Clown" on her Charmbracelet album, released around the same time, which makes similar references in line with her 2009 (last year) hit "Obsessed".

Eminem's "Bagpipes From Baghdad" from his album Relapse may be his best known Carey diss due to the controversy it caused. The song calls out Mariah and husband Nick Cannon's relationship. Cannon responded to Eminem by saying his career is based on "racist bigotry", and that he would get revenge on Eminem, joking that he may return to rapping. Eminem later stated that the couple misinterpreted the track and it was wishing the two the best. Cannon also stated that there were no hard feelings, and that he just had to express his feelings about the song.

In 2009 (last year) Carey released "Obsessed" in which she sings about an obsessed man who claims to be having a relationship with her. Cannon claimed that the song was not an insult directed at Eminem. Eminem then released a track in late Jul. 2009 (last year) titled "The Warning" which was a direct insult at Mariah and Nick, and contained samples of a voice which is either Carey's, or a very good voice actress (Eminem does not tell the listener).

Career

Musical career

1972–1997: Early life, and Infinite
Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Deborah Mathers-Briggs (née Nelson) and Marshall Bruce Mathers, Jr. Shortly after his birth, his father abandoned his family. Until he was twelve, Mathers and his mother moved between various cities and towns in Missouri (including St. Joseph, Savannah, Missouri and Kansas City) before moving to Warren, Michigan, a Detroit suburb. After procuring a copy of the Beastie Boys album Licensed to Ill as a teenager, Mathers became interested in hip hop, performing amateur raps at age fourteen under the pseudonym "M&M" and joining the group called "Bassmint Productions" and released their first EP called "Steppin' Onto The Scene". They later changed their name to "Soul Intent" and around 1995 (15 years ago) they released their first single called "Fuckin' Backstabber" under the record label Mashin' Duck Records. Although he was enrolled at Lincoln High School in Warren, he frequently participated in freestyle battles at Osborn High School across town, gaining the approval of underground hip hop audiences. After repeating the ninth grade three times due to truancy, he dropped out of high school at age 17.

Mathers was initially signed to FBT Productions in 1992 (18 years ago), run by brothers Jeff and Mark Bass. Mathers also held a minimum-wage job of cooking and dishwashing at the restaurant Gilbert's Lodge at St. Clair Shores for some time. In 1996 (14 years ago), his debut album Infinite, which was recorded at the Bassmint, a recording studio owned by the Bass Brothers, was released under their independent label Web Entertainment. Eminem recalled "Obviously, I was young and influenced by other artists, and I got a lot of feedback saying that I sounded like Nas and AZ. 'Infinite' was me trying to figure out how I wanted my rap style to be, how I wanted to sound on the mic and present myself. It was a growing stage. I felt like 'Infinite' was like a demo that just got pressed up." Subjects covered in Infinite included his struggles with raising his newborn daughter Hailie Jade Scott while on limited funds and his strong desire to get rich. Early in his career, Eminem collaborated with fellow Detroit MC Royce da 5'9" under the stage name Bad Meets Evil. After the release of Infinite, Eminem's personal struggles and abuse of drugs and alcohol culminated in his unsuccessful suicide attempt.

With the release of The Slim Shady EP, Mathers was accused of imitating the style and subject matter of underground rapper Cage. While promoting the EP, Mathers approached Insane Clown Posse member Joseph Bruce and handed him a flyer which implied that the group would make an appearance at the EP's release party. Bruce refused to appear because Mathers had not previously approached him for permission to use the group's name in this way. Taking Bruce's response as a personal offense, Mathers subsequently attacked the group in radio interviews.

Jimmy Iovine, CEO of Interscope Records, requested a demo tape of Eminem's after Eminem won second place at the 1997 (13 years ago) Rap Olympics. Iovine played the tape for record producer Dr. Dre, founder of Aftermath Entertainment. The two began recording tracks for Eminem's upcoming major-label debut The Slim Shady LP, and Eminem made a guest performance on the album Devil Without a Cause by Kid Rock. Hip-hop magazine The Source featured Eminem in its "Unsigned Hype" column in Mar. 1998 (12 years ago).

1998–1999: The Slim Shady LP
According to Billboard Magazine, at this point in his life Eminem had "realized his musical ambitions were the only way to escape his unhappy life". After being signed to Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records in 1998 (12 years ago), Eminem released in 1999 (11 years ago) his first major studio album, The Slim Shady LP, heavily based on the production by Dr. Dre. The album was, according to Billboard, "light years ahead of the material he had been writing beforehand". It went on to be one of the most popular albums of 1999 (11 years ago), going triple platinum by the end of the year. With the album's popularity came controversy surrounding many of the album's lyrics. In "'97 Bonnie and Clyde", he describes a trip with his infant daughter, disposing of the body of his wife. Another song, "Guilty Conscience", ends with his encouraging a man to murder his wife and her lover. "Guilty Conscience" marked the beginning of the powerful friendship and musical bond that Dr. Dre and Eminem would share. The two label-mates would later collaborate on a line of hit songs, including "Forgot About Dre" and "What's the Difference" from Dr. Dre's album 2001 (9 years ago), "Bitch Please II" from The Marshall Mathers LP, "Say What You Say" from The Eminem Show, "Encore/Curtains Down" from Encore and "Old Time's Sake" and "Crack a Bottle" from Relapse. Dr. Dre would go on to make at least one guest appearance on all of Eminem's studio albums under the label Aftermath.

2000–2001: The Marshall Mathers LP
The Marshall Mathers LP was released in May 2000 (10 years ago). It went on to sell 1.76 million copies in its first week, breaking the records set by Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle as the fastest-selling hip hop album and Britney Spears'...Baby One More Time as the fastest-selling solo album in United States history. The first single released from the album, "The Real Slim Shady", was a success and created some controversy by insulting celebrities and making dubious claims about them; he states, among other things, that Christina Aguilera (82 walls) performed oral sex on Fred Durst and Carson Daly. In his second single, "The Way I Am", he reveals to his fans the pressures from his record company to top "My Name Is" and sell more records. Although Eminem had parodied shock rocker Marilyn Manson in the video "My Name Is", the artists are reportedly on good terms. They performed a remix of the song "The Way I Am" together in concert. In the third single, "Stan" (which samples Dido's "Thank You"), Eminem attempts to deal with his new-found fame, taking on the persona of a deranged fan who kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend, mirroring "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" on The Slim Shady LP. Q magazine named "Stan" the third-greatest rap song of all time, and the song came tenth in a similar survey conducted by Top40-Charts.com. The song has since become highly acclaimed and was ranked 290th in Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. In Jul. 2000 (10 years ago), Eminem became the first white person to be featured on the cover of The Source magazine.

Music tours that he participated in for 2001 (9 years ago) included the Up In Smoke Tour with rappers Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg (5 walls), Xzibit, and Ice Cube and Family Values Tour with the band Limp Bizkit.

2002–2003: The Eminem Show
Eminem's third major album, The Eminem Show, was released in summer 2002 (8 years ago) and proved to be another hit for the rapper reaching number one on the charts and selling well over 1 million copies in its first week of release. It featured the single "Without Me", an apparent sequel to "The Real Slim Shady", in which he makes derogatory comments about boy bands, Limp Bizkit, Moby, and Lynne Cheney, among others. The album reflected on the impact of his rise to fame, his relationship with his wife and daughter, and his status in the hip-hop community. He also addresses the charges he faced over assaulting a bouncer he saw kissing his wife in 2000 (10 years ago). Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic felt that while there was clear anger present on several tracks, this album was considerably less inflammatory than The Marshall Mathers LP. However, L. Brent Bozell III, who previously criticized The Marshall Mathers LP for perceived misogynistic lyrics in the album, noted The Eminem Show for its extensive use of obscene language, giving Eminem the nickname "Eminef" for the bowdlerization of motherfucker, an obscenity prevalent in the album.

2004–2005: Encore
On Dec. 8, 2003 (7 years ago), the United States Secret Service admitted it was "looking into" allegations that Eminem had threatened the President of the United States. The lyrics in question: "Fuck money/I don't rap for dead presidents/I'd rather see the president dead/It's never been said, but I set precedents...". The song in question, "We As Americans", wound up on a bonus CD accompanying the album.

The year 2004 (6 years ago) saw the release of Eminem's fourth major album, Encore. The album was another chart-topper, as it was driven by the single "Just Lose It", notable for being disrespectful towards Michael Jackson. On Oct. 12, 2004 (6 years ago), a week after the release of "Just Lose It", Eminem's first single off Encore, Michael Jackson (25 walls) called into the Los Angeles-based Steve Harvey radio show to report his displeasure with the video, which parodies Jackson's child molestation trial, plastic surgery, and an incident in which Jackson's hair caught on fire while filming a Pepsi commercial in 1984 (26 years ago). The lyrics to "Just Lose It" refer to Jackson's legal troubles, however he does state in his song "... and that's not a stab at Michael/That's just a metaphor/I'm just psycho...." Many of Jackson's supporters and friends spoke out about the video, including Stevie Wonder, who called the video "kicking a man while he's down" and "bullshit", and Steve Harvey who declared, "Eminem has lost his ghetto pass. We want the pass back." In the video, Eminem parodied Pee Wee Herman, MC Hammer, and a Blonde-Ambition-touring Madonna.

Regarding Jackson's protest, "Weird Al" Yankovic, who parodied the Eminem song "Lose Yourself" on a track titled "Couch Potato" on his 2003 (7 years ago) album Poodle Hat, told the Chicago Sun-Times, "Last year, Eminem forced me to halt production on the video for my "Lose Yourself" parody because he somehow thought that it would be harmful to his image (wallpaper) or career. So the irony of this situation with Michael is not lost on me." Black Entertainment TV was the first channel to stop airing the video. MTV, however, announced it would continue airing the video. The Source, through its CEO Raymond "Benzino" Scott, wanted not only the video to be pulled, but the song off the album, and a public apology to Jackson from Eminem. In 2007 (3 years ago) Jackson and Sony bought Famous Music LLC from Viacom. This deal gave him the rights to songs by Eminem, Shakira (14 walls) and Beck, among others. Despite the comedic theme of the lead single, Encore had its fair share of serious subject matter, including the anti-war track "Mosh". On Oct. 25, 2004 (6 years ago), a week before the 2004 (6 years ago) U.S. Presidential election, Eminem released the video for "Mosh" on the Internet. The song featured a very strong anti-Bush message, with lyrics such as "fuck Bush" and "this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president". The video features Eminem gathering up an army of people, including rapper Lloyd Banks, presented as victims of the Bush administration and leading them to the White House. However, once the army breaks in, it is revealed that they are there to simply register to vote, and the video ends with the words "VOTE Tuesday Nov. 2" on the screen. After Bush won the election, the video's ending was changed to Eminem and the protesters invading while Bush was giving a speech.

2005–2008: Musical hiatus
In 2005 (5 years ago), some industry insiders speculated that Eminem was considering ending his rapping career after six years and several multi-platinum albums. Speculation began in early 2005 (5 years ago) about a double-disc album to be released late that year, rumored to be titled The Funeral. The album manifested itself as a greatest hits album under the name Curtain Call: The Hits, and was released on Dec. 6, 2005 (5 years ago) under Aftermath Entertainment. In Jul. 2005 (5 years ago), the Detroit Free Press broke news of a potential final bow for Eminem as a solo performer, quoting members of his inside circle who said that he will begin to fully embrace the role of producer and label executive. On the same day of the release of the compilation album, Eminem denied that he was retiring on Detroit-based WKQI's "Mojo in the Morning" radio show, but implied that he would at least be taking a break as an artist, saying "I'm at a point in my life right now where I feel like I don't know where my career is going... This is the reason that we called it 'Curtain Call', because this could be the final thing. We don't know."

In 2005 (5 years ago), Eminem was a subject of Bernard Goldberg's book, 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America; he ranked #58. Goldberg cited a 2001 (9 years ago) column by Bob Herbert of The New York Times claiming, "In Eminem's world, all women are whores and he is eager to rape and murder them." The Eminem song "No One's Iller" from The Slim Shady EP was used by Goldberg as an example of misogyny in his music.

In summer 2005 (5 years ago), Eminem embarked on his first U.S. concert run in three years, the Anger Management 3 Tour, featuring 50 Cent, G-Unit, Lil' Jon, D12, Obie Trice, The Alchemist, and others. In Aug. 2005 (5 years ago), Eminem canceled the European leg of the tour and subsequently announced that he had entered drug rehabilitation for treatment for a "dependency on sleep medication".

2008–2009: Relapse and Relapse 2
In Sep. 2007 (3 years ago), Eminem called into New York radio station Hot 97 during a 50 Cent interview and said he was "in limbo" and "debating" about when and if he would release another album. He said, "I'm always working -- I'm always in the studio. It feels good right now, the energy of the label. For a while, I didn't want to go back to the studio... I went through some personal things. I'm coming out of those personal things [and] it feels good."

Eminem made an appearance on his Sirius channel Shade 45 in Sep. 2008 (2 years ago) in which he said, "Right now I'm kinda just concentrating on my own stuff, for right now and just banging out tracks and producing a lot of stuff. You know, the more I keep producing the better it seems like I get 'cause I just start knowing stuff." It was around this time that Interscope finally confirmed the existence of a new Eminem album, with Spring 2009 (last year) later being stated as the period span in which the album is due. In Dec. 2008 (2 years ago), he gave more details on the album, which he recently reported was being titled Relapse. He said, "Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days, man. Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on 'Relapse'. We are up to our old mischievous ways... let's just leave it at that."

On Mar. 5, 2009 (last year), Eminem reported in a press release that he would be releasing two new albums this year. Relapse, the first album, was released on May 19, while "We Made You", the first official single and its music video, were released on Apr. 7.. On Oct. 3, 2009 (last year), Eminem appeared once again on Shade 45 with DJ Whoo Kid and announced that Denaun Porter and Just Blaze were very busy working on Relapse 2.

Shady Records and D12
As Eminem succeeded in multi-platinum record sales, Interscope granted him his own record label. He and his manager Paul Rosenberg created Shady Records in late 2000 (10 years ago). He followed this by signing his own Detroit collective D12 and rapper Obie Trice to the label. In 2002 (8 years ago), Eminem signed 50 Cent through a joint venture between Shady and Dr. Dre's Aftermath label. In 2003 (7 years ago), Eminem and Dr. Dre signed Atlanta rapper Stat Quo to the Shady/Aftermath roster. DJ Green Lantern, the former DJ for Eminem, was signed to Shady Records until a dispute related to the 50 Cent and Jadakiss feud forced him to depart from the label; he is no longer associated with Eminem. The Alchemist is now officially Eminem's tour DJ. In 2005 (5 years ago), Eminem signed another Atlanta rapper, Bobby Creekwater, to his label along with West Coast rapper Cashis.

On Dec. 5, 2006 (4 years ago), Shady Records released compilation album, Eminem Presents: The Re-Up. It started out as a mixtape but Eminem found that the material was better than expected and released it as a full album. It was meant to help launch the new artists under the roster, like Stat Quo, Cashis and Bobby Creekwater.

Around the time of recording Infinite, Eminem and rappers Proof and Kon Artis gathered the group of rappers now collectively in the group D12, short for "Detroit Twelve" or "Dirty Dozen", performing in the manner of the multi-man group Wu-Tang Clan. In 2001 (9 years ago), Eminem brought his rap group, D12, to the popular music scene, and the group's debut album Devil's Night came out that year. The first single released off of the album was "Shit on You", followed by "Purple Pills", an ode to recreational drug use. For radio and television, the censored version "Pills" was heavily rewritten to remove many of the song's references to drugs and sex and was renamed "Purple Hills". While that single was a hit, the album's second single, "Fight Music", was not as successful.

After their debut, D12 took a three-year break from the studio, later regrouping to release their second album, D12 World, in 2004 (6 years ago), which featured the popular hit single release "My Band". In Apr. 2006 (4 years ago) D12 member Deshaun "Proof" Holton was killed in a club brawl on 8 Mile Road in Detroit, Michigan, involving U.S. military veteran Keith Bender Jr., who was killed by Proof. The eruption is suspected to have been due to an argument over a game of pool. Proof was then allegedly shot by the bouncer Mario Etheridge, Bender's cousin. He was taken by private vehicle to St. John Health's Conner Creek Campus, an outpatient emergency treatment site, but pronounced dead on arrival. Eminem and former Detroit Shady Records artist Obie Trice spoke at the funeral.

D12 member Bizarre said that Eminem is not featured on his new album Blue Cheese & Coney Island because "he's busy doing his thing". In a Dec. 2007 (3 years ago) interview with the website DefSounds.com, Bizarre confirmed that the group is working on its third studio album, tentatively titled The Ambition, which he said was "halfway finished" at the time of the interview. Producers include Dr. Dre, Eminem, Luis Resto, and Hi-Tek.

Although he typically collaborates with various rappers under Aftermath Entertainment and Shady Records, such as Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, D12, Eminem has collaborated with many other artists, including, Redman, Kid Rock, DMX, Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Method Man, The Notorious B.I.G., Jadakiss, Fat Joe, Sticky Fingaz, T.I. and others. Eminem rapped a verse in a live performance of Busta Rhymes' "Touch It" remix at the 2006 (4 years ago) BET Music Awards on Jun. 27, 2006 (4 years ago). Eminem was featured on Akon's single "Smack That" which appeared on Akon's album Konvicted.

Eminem is also an active rap producer. Besides being the executive producer of D12's two albums, Devil's Night and D12 World, he has executive produced Obie Trice's Cheers and Second Round's on Me as well as 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' and The Massacre. Most of The Eminem Show was produced by Eminem himself, with co-production from longtime collaborator Jeff Bass. He split the production with Dr. Dre on Encore. In 2004 (6 years ago), Eminem was the Executive Producer of 2Pac's posthumous album Loyal to the Game with 2Pac's mother Afeni Shakur. He produced the UK #1 single "Ghetto Gospel" which featured Elton John. He has produced "The Cross" off Nas's album God's Son. On Aug. 15, 2006 (4 years ago), Obie Trice released Second Round's on Me. Eminem produced 8 tracks on the album. He was featured in the song "There They Go". Eminem produced some tracks on the new Trick Trick album, The Villain. He is also featured in "Who Want It".

Writing

Eminem works currently an "Shady Talez" an fictional horror comic book.

Acting career

Although he had a brief cameo in the 2001 (9 years ago) movie The Wash, Eminem made his official Hollywood acting debut with the semi-autobiographical 8 Mile, released in Nov. 2002 (8 years ago). He has said the movie is not an account of his life, but a representation of growing up in Detroit. He recorded several new songs for the soundtrack, including "Lose Yourself", which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2003 (7 years ago). However, the song was not performed at the ceremony, due to Eminem's absence at the ceremony. His collaborator, Luis Resto, who co-wrote the song, accepted the award.

Eminem has participated in various voice acting roles. Some of these include the video game 50 Cent: Bulletproof, where he voices an aging corrupt police officer that speaks in Ebonics and guest spots on the Comedy Central television show Crank Yankers, and a web cartoon called The Slim Shady Show, which has since been pulled off-line and is instead sold on DVD.

Lady Gaga: 'I Was Never Supposed To Do' 'We Are The World' Latest News on omg! - 5 days ago
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Lady Gaga is setting the record straight about those rumors that she was supposed to be a part of the re-recording of "We Are The World." According to reports by a host of Web sites, including Rolling Stone's, Lady Gaga was one of the many artists (also including Beyonce, Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z) who were reported to be a part of the historic re-recording to aid Haiti - reports that later proved to be premature. And on Thursday, Lady Gaga explained to Billy Bush for Access Hollywood and "The Billy Bush Show," why she wasn't in the LA studio laying down a track earlier this week.

Drake Says He'd Be 'Down' For A Taylor Swift Collaboration MTV News - 5 days ago
'I just like her whole being,' rapper says of the Grammy-winning country star.By Jocelyn Vena Drake Photo: Shareif Ziyadat/FilmMagic Regardless of what people are saying about Taylor Swift's Grammy performance, she happens to be one of the biggest stars in pop country — and she might find herself with a hip-hop career before she knows it. At least Drake is game for a collaboration. "Seeing Taylor Swift in person is always fun for me," the rapper told "Extra" on Sunday. "I bought this Taylor Swift T-shirt the other day that I might wear tonight." While Drake didn't end up wearing any Swift merch onstage for his performance of "Forever," alongside Eminem, Lil Wayne and Travis Barker, he is willing to show his fandom in other ways. "I just have this small little thing with her; I just like her whole being. I'm excited about her career," he said, adding he'd like to get into the studio with her. "That would be nice, I'm down!" Swift has already dabbled in hip-hop. Who could forget T-Swizzle's memorable "Thug Life" duet with T-Pain at the CMT Awards last year? And long before she and Kanye West had a more, er, complicated relationship, Swift shared with MTV News that she wouldn't mind hitting the studio with him. "I'd like to do a completely off-the-wall collaboration," she said. "I would like one of my songs to be the hook to a rap song. That would be so much fun! You know, I love Kanye West and I love T.I. — he's amazing." Would you like to see Drake and Taylor collaborate? Let us know in the comments below, or upload a video to Your.MTV.com. Eminem Reportedly Back Together with (Pregnant!) Ex The Hollywood Gossip - 6 days ago
Eminem and Kim Mathers have been married twice. In 2000, a year after they first tied the knot, Kim attempted suicide and then sued the rapper for defamation after he sung about her violent death in the single "Kim." The couple for remarried in 2006, only to divorce again three months later. Eminem once said: "I'd rather have a baby through my penis than get married again;" while Kim has referred to her ex as being "unathletic" in bed. In other words: this has been a rocky relationship. Which makes the following rumor entirely possible: Star Magazine reports that Eminem and Kim aren't just back together; they're expecting a child together this spring! Said a source: "When he came into Kim's life again in a romantic way, she was floored. Kim's pregnany is going smoothly." From suicide attempts to lawsuits to small penis references, Eminem and Kim Mathers have been through a lot.

Watch Lil Wayne Forget His Lyrics In This Exclusive Video MTV News - 7 days ago
Plus, original 'Banned From TV' duo Swizz Beatz and Noreaga give Weezy love during Hip-Hop and R&B Week.By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne Photo: Thaddeus On Sunday night, millions tuned in to watch Lil Wayne go to work. Weezy, Eminem and Drake illuminated the 52nd annual Grammy Awards with "Drop the World" and "Forever." While he knows how to ignite the stage, Wayne's favorite workplace is still the studio. Mixtape Daily debuted an exclusive clip last month that showed Weezy F. Baby recording his "Banned From TV" freestyle from the No Ceilings mixtape. Wayne laughs uncontrollably in the clip as he lays lines to the underground gem. In a new exclusive clip, he even does a little dance as he composes lyrics in his head, messes up and regroups. The New Orleans native loves his work. Stopping by the MTV News offices recently, Swizz Beatz — producer of the official "Banned From TV" track back in 1998 — had the opportunity to hear Wayne's freestyle for the first time and gave it a thumbs-up. "For Wayne to do that in 2010, millions of instrumentals are out," Swizz said. "For him to use 'Banned From TV' and air it out, that's super respect." Last month, "Banned From TV" rapper Noreaga said Wayne is tops on his list right now. "Wayne is my favorite rapper of the new age," N.O.R.E. told Mixtape Daily. "Although in rap years, he's just as old as me. But that's my favorite rapper for the new age. For him to not only do the joint, but it appear on Mixtape Daily video ... that's an honor. My kids love Lil Wayne. Do 'Super Thug' next, Wayne — keep my legacy alive. ... I'm trying to do Special Ed's 'I Got It Made' and a few other classics over. It's only to give respect to the people. If Wayne is a real MC like I know he is, he was doing it to show love and respect to the joint and what it meant to him. I'm speechless." As much as the "Banned From TV" track is heralded, Swizz said he's made way better beats than that. "That's probably one of my most simple beats of all time," Swizz said. "That's, like, four sounds. "I think it's the moment that makes the track one of [my] greatest tracks of all time," the producer added. "I think it's the moment where hip-hop was at that time where you had [Big] Pun, [Jadakiss], Nore and everybody. All those elements make it that. I think as far as instrumentals, it was a'ight." In the new DVD "The Nino Brown Story, Pt. 2" (in stores and available on DJ Scoob Doo's Web site), you can see more clips of Wayne in the lab as well as in the club and clowning with the Cash Money Millionaires. It's Hip-Hop and R&B Week at MTV News, and we're taking a look at some of the biggest up-and-coming artists and the heavyweights of 2010. Stay tuned all week for more! Travis Barker 'Can't Wait' To Record New Blink-182 LP MTV News - 8 days ago
'We're about to start working on it,' drummer says of new LP.By James Montgomery Travis Barker Photo: MTV News Travis Barker has heard what both of his Blink-182 bandmates have had to say about the status of the group's much-anticipated new album ... that it would be coming out in 2011 or, alternatively, that it would be coming out much sooner. And now, he's wading into the fray. When MTV News caught up with Barker backstage at the Grammy Awards on Sunday — minutes after he rocked the stage with Lil Wayne, Eminem and Drake — we asked him for an update on Blink's follow-up to their self-titled 2003 effort. And, from the sound of things, it's gonna be a long year for Blink fans. "We're about to start working on it. I'm gonna try to wrap up my album and, uh, Tom has his band, he's wrapping up that album, and then we'll start working on a Blink record," Barker said. "We go to Europe in August for all the festivals ... we do, like, six weeks out there, and then our album will come out probably early next year." A spokesperson for Blink-182's label Interscope did not respond to MTV News' request for comment at press time. So while the band seems to be following bassist Mark Hoppus' plan of "just getting back in the studio and do what we do," the fruits of that plan might not be heard for a while. But Barker maintains that a new Blink record is still very much the top priority for all three men, especially after they passed their first test — a high-profile reunion tour — with flying colors. "This summer was the test, and we got out there, and it was the best time I've had playing with those two dudes in my life," Barker said. "It felt even better than old times, so I can't wait to do an album together again." Are you looking forward to the new Blink-182 album? CBS Defends Bleeped Lil Wayne, Eminem, Drake Grammy Performance MTV News - 8 days ago
'There are certain things you can't say, or sing, on television,' the network's Chris Ender says.By Jayson Rodriguez Drake and Eminem perform on the Grammys Sunday Photo: Robyn Beck/ Getty Images Some fans are saying CBS censors were overeager with the bleep button during Drake's performance of "Forever" with Lil Wayne and Eminem at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, but a CBS spokesperson defended the audio edits on Monday (February 1). The sound was dropped out a number of times during the collective's performance, which drew the ire of fans watching at home. On Twitter and Facebook, viewers posted about their confusion, thinking technical difficulties were to blame. The issue continued as blogs and Web sites, most notably New York magazine, questioned the censorship. A spokesman for CBS, however, said the rappers were free to perform within a certain parameter that each entertainer had to abide by. CBS' Chris Ender praised the MCs' showmanship but said the explicit material made it difficult to broadcast without some degree of censoring. "It was a rousing musical performance, but words were edited from the live telecast that didn't meet our broadcast standards," Ender explained, according to The Associated Press. "We have great respect for artists' creative freedom, but there are certain things you can't say, or sing, on television." According to a number of reports, the "Forever" performance was more audible during the tape-delayed broadcast on the West Coast. Many have also noted that the artists themselves actually censored their lyrics and either replaced them with clean words or pauses. It's a difficult position for CBS to be in, though, considering Wayne and Eminem chose to perform a song that many have yet to hear — "Drop the World," from Weezy's upcoming Rebirth album — which includes a significant amount of profanity. Drake, Eminem 'Talking About' Another Collaboration MTV News - 8 days ago
'We might need that to happen,' Drake says at Grammy Awards red carpet.By Shaheem Reid Drake and Sway Photo: MTV News It looks like the planned March release forDrake's hotly anticipated official debut LP, Thank Me Later, may not happen. It's already February and the 23-year old said he's still recording his opus. "Not yet," Drake said Sunday night at the red carpet of the Grammy Awards, when asked if he was done recording. "I got a couple more things." One of those things has the potential to be a blockbuster: Drizzy and Eminem may have a follow-up to "Forever," which the pair performed with Lil Wayne and drummer Travis Barker at the Grammys. "Me and Em talked about something today," Drake revealed. "We might need that to happen." As for the official first single from the album, the Young Money franchise player is ruminating on it. "I'm gonna figure that out this week and it should be coming in a week or two," he said. "It's all coming soon. I won't take too long." Besides performing "Forever" with Slim Shady and Lil Wayne, Drake was nominated for two Grammys, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance, both for "Best I Ever Had." (He lost out to Jay-Z in both categories.) "That song is a real honest song," he said. "It connected with a lot of women — my moms likes it. For it to be Grammy-nominated is an honor, man. It's always good when the words in your music are something that you live by and you get to hear it every day on the radio and you're not ashamed of it. "It's all moments I need to cherish and observe," he said, summing up the evening. Travis Barker Says Grammy Gig With Lil Wayne, Eminem, Drake Was 'So Fun' MTV News - 8 days ago
'It was real cool to work with such talented people,' drummer says.By James Montgomery Travis Barker performs onstage at the 52nd annual Grammys Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images When MTV News spoke to Travis Barker on Friday, he was pretty much in the dark about his Grammy-night performance with Lil Wayne, Drake and Eminem, saying, "I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing yet." So on Sunday night, immediately following that performance, he was pretty amazed — not to mention a bit relieved — that they had all managed to pull it off. "Aw man, it was so fun," Barker said. "They're all professionals. I think we went through the song one time all together — that was it — and everyone nailed their part. It was real cool, man, to work with such talented people." With only one rehearsal under their belts, the fabulous foursome managed to turn in one of the standout performances of Grammy night, roaring through versions of Wayne's "Drop the World" and Drake's "Forever." Part of that was due to their professionalism, to be sure, but a lot of it also had to do with the fact that Barker knows Em, Weezy and Drake pretty well. After all, he's worked with them in the past. "Part of [the performance] was my remix [of Drake's "Forever,"]" Barker said. "But I know all of those guys. Over the summer, when I was on tour, I was in Detroit for a day, and I went in and did a song with Eminem for my record. We did a track together, and he's doing lyrics now, so I got to work with him in his studio, but this was the first time I got to play with him. "And with Wayne, we had just run into each other a bunch of times in the past," he continued. "I did some drums for something on Cash Money, and he traded me a verse for my album." Both Em and Wayne will appear on Barker's upcoming solo album, which he said might be called Can the Drummer Get Some? That's also the name of a song he recorded with Weezy, Swizz Beatz and Rick Ross, which Barker says may very well be the first single. Taylor, Beyonce and Jay-Z Win Big at the Grammy Awards PopSugar - 8 days ago
The Grammy Awards took over LA's Shrine Auditorium Sunday night, with many of music's biggest stars heading in from the red carpet to see who took home gold. Kicking off the show was a performance from Lady Gaga, which featured a special duet with Elton John in special Gaga-esque makeup and glasses. Beyonce Knowles wasn't able to accept her statue for Song of the Year, which she won for "Single Ladies," since she was getting ready to take the stage and sing a cover of Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" - watch it here. Ryan Seacrest was soon up to introduce Miss Swift, who joined legendary Stevie Nicks for a rendition of "Rhiannon." Britney stuck close to Jason Trawick all night long. One of the night's cutest moments was when Rihanna and Jay-Z brought up his nephew, Solange Knowles's son Julez, onstage to accept for "Run This Town," though he politely answered "no thanks" when asked if he wanted to say anything to the crowd - check out all the winners on Buzz! Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas were together for an energetic mix of their recent hits, but it was the Michael Jackson tribute that took things to another level. Lionel Richie introduced a group of artists including Usher, Celine Dion and Carrie Underwood to sing Michael's "Earth Song." The piece was interestingly broadcast in 3-D, though they were back to regular 2-D when Michael's kids Paris and Prince came out to accept an honorary award on behalf of their father. Another touching moment came when Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli performed "Bridge Over Troubled Water" as a tribute to the people of Haiti. It was Beyonce herself who won the Best Female Pop Performance, and she adorably thanked her husband Jay-Z in the front row, even breaking from their usual super-private strategy saying, "I love you!" The biggest honor of the night went to Taylor Swift with her Album of the Year award, making it a pretty sweet night for the star after also winning Country Album of the Year. Afterward she stepped back to the press room to chat about her big wins! LOTS more photos from the show so read more. Eminem Told Drake 'Don't Get Nervous' About Grammy Performance MTV News - 8 days ago
'He gave me that reassurance,' Drake says of Eminem's pre-show pep talk.By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Sway Calloway Drake performs at the Grammys Sunday Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images "I think it's a great night for hip-hop," Drake said at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 31). "Just that medium being acknowledged at all." The 23-year-old Canadian, himself acknowledged with two nominations, also had a great night — he got to close the show with the first-ever live performance of "Forever," joining Lil Wayne and Eminem on the Grammy stage. And while Drake is certainly used to rocking stages with his Young Money boss Weezy, he got some surprising encouragement from Slim Shady during rehearsals. "Em gave me probably one of the best speeches ... not really a speech, but ... he gave me that reassurance," Drake said on the red carpet. "He was like, 'Man, anytime you need to look over at me, don't get nervous. Just look over at me, man, and I'll give it back to you. Everything will be all right. Don't be nervous.' For him to say that to me — I feel like that was an important moment. It was nice." One glaring omission from "Forever," though, was the appearance of Kanye West. The Louis Vuitton Don is apparently back in the lab. "I think 'Ye's in a good creative space right now," Drizzy said of his absence. "I think he's trying to create that next album the world needs. I know he's working very hard somewhere." During the medley, Lil Wayne and Eminem also performed "Drop the World" from Wayne's Rebirth album, in stores Tuesday. Lil Wayne, Eminem, Drake Rock 'Forever' At Grammy Awards MTV News - 8 days ago
The trio of MCs are backed by Travis Barker on drums.By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne and Eminem perform at the 2010 Grammy Awards Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Lil Wayne, Eminem and Drake closed out the Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 31) — and gave the censors a workout — with a medley of "Forever" and unannounced surprise track "Drop the World," marking the first time the group had performed either song live onstage. The performance started with Wayne, wearing a white jacket and white T-shirt that read "Listen to Lil Wayne," spitting his opening verse from "Drop the World." "I got ice in my veins, blood in my eyes/ Hate in my heart, love on my mind/ I seen nights full of pain, days of the same/ You keep the sunshine, save me the rain." After his verse and chorus, Eminem walked onstage to audio problems — his live vocals were inaudible over the track. Slim Shady — who filmed the video to the song Saturday with Wayne — kicked in with his rapid-fire flow just as the mic began to work again. A live band, which included Blink-182's Travis Barker on drums, backed the MCs. When the beat changed to "Forever," Drake joined the crew while Wayne and Em hyped in the background. The studio version of "Forever" also features Kanye West, but he didn't make it to the awards show. Drake said before the show that 'Ye was in a "creative space." On Friday, Travis Barker didn't offer much more in the way of details. "I don't know," he said about West's whereabouts. "Someone said he's in Hawaii writing an album. I would stay there." West's friends and musical collaborators have been tweeting that Kanye is working on an "inspiring" new album. Travis Barker Talks Grammy Performance With Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake MTV News - 11 days ago
'I have yet to rehearse,' Blink-182 drummer tells MTV News of his performance at Sunday's show.By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Travis Barker Photo: MTV News Travis Barker is eternally busy. Blink-182. Solo album. Clothing company. You name it, he's probably got his hand in it. That's why you can't blame him if he's not totally up to speed on his performance with Drake, Lil Wayne and Eminem at Sunday's Grammy Awards. Sometimes, these things tend to pile up. "I have yet to rehearse [with anyone]. I got a call, like, on Tuesday. Everyone found out a day after I did. So, I don't know exactly what I'm doing yet," Barker told MTV News on Friday (January 29) in his Los Angeles studio. "I'm just a part of it. I know I'm playing drums. I know it's a performance with Eminem, Drake, myself and Lil Wayne. I think it might be 'Forever.' " That seems likely. After all, both Em and Wayne contributed verses to Drake's "Forever," and Barker contributed a blazing remix of the song earlier this year. But the Blink drummer's night won't just stop there. He's apparently also set to perform with Wayne on a version of "Drop the World," from Weezy's upcoming Rebirth album (that track also features Em), which makes it sound very much like there's a medley on tap. "Yeah, I think we're doing a medley, a couple of songs," Barker laughed. "I think 'Drop the World' is in. Maybe." And while a combo of Barker, Drake, Eminem and Wayne would certainly rival the "Swagga Like Us" performance at last year's Grammys (which featured Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I., Weezy and M.I.A. sharing the stage), there's still one big question: Will West — who has been lying low since his infamous outburst at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards — show up on Sunday to perform his verse on "Forever"? Not surprisingly, Barker isn't exactly sure. "I don't know. Someone said he's in Hawaii, writing an album," he smiled. "I would stay there." Stick with MTV News all week for our coverage of the 2010 Grammy Awards. We'll have reports on your favorite nominees, party photos, behind-the-scenes video and much more leading up to and during the big show Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. Shawty Lo Shoots 'Crazy' Video For 'WTF' With Lil Wayne MTV News - 11 days ago
'Everybody came out and supported,' Lo says of the video shoot.By Shaheem Reid Shawty Lo and Lil Wayne Photo: Thaddaeus McAdams Much like his friend Rick Ross, Shawty Lo is thinking ahead. On Thursday, Ross announced a record called "Sweet Life" with John Legend as a future single. The song has not been released yet, but Ross and Legend already filmed the video. The same goes for Lo. He and Lil Wayne have a song called "WTF" coming soon, but the visual for the track is done. "It's just what it stands for: 'What the F,' man," Lo said about the song. "It's crazy, man. It's a record me and Weezy did at the beginning of the month. We decided we might as well shoot the video for it. It's a good look. Everybody wants the song, but I'mma release it [NBA] All-Star Weekend. It's just basically street. 'What the F.' Our style of music. Nice beat, crazy lyrics." Lo and Wayne shot the video on Tuesday. "It was crazy. Everybody came out and supported," Shawty said of the shoot. "We started 6 in the a.m. and didn't finish until 6 the next morning. We had a club performance, we had the rooftop performance and an inside-studio performance. Like, three, four good scenes. It's gonna be a good video. ... We got a lot of good footage." Wayne and Lo's relationship goes back all the way to 2005, when Lo recorded his first song, "I'm Da Man"; Wayne and Rick Ross guest-starred on the track. "Wayne is unbelievable. He's the hardest-working artist I know," Lo said. "He don't need a pencil. He goes off the top. Wayne is unbelievable. He came and blessed me with the video. I was gonna go to Miami, fly down there. But he came and we shot it in Atlanta, so it was a great look." With Wayne's impending jail time on a weapons-possession charge next month, the Fireman has been working overtime to shoot videos for a myriad of records. There are two new Young Money clips in the can. This weekend, Wayne and Eminem film the video for "Drop the World," and the Shawty Lo video has been filmed. "It means everything to me," Lo said. "It means a lot to have him on there, period. But to have one of the last videos before he goes in, we made history. A lot of people called and reached out, like, 'Lo, how you pull that off?' But real street cats recognize each other. He recognize real. I know he's real. We made it happen." Before the Wayne video, Lo has a clip for the song "Atlanta, GA" coming soon. It guest-stars Ludacris and The-Dream. They also show love to Gucci Mane, who's on the song but couldn't make the video because he's in jail. "Wait till you see how we did the Gucci Mane part," Shawty said. "You gonna think he was there." Related Photos Shawty Lo And Lil Wayne Video Shoot Related Artists Shawty Lo Lil Wayne
