Biography for Alexander Skarsgård

Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård (born Aug. 25, 1976 (34 years ago)) is a Swedish actor and director. He is the son of Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård and the brother of actor Gustaf Skarsgård (born 1980 (30 years ago)).

Personal life

Skarsgård was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He has acted in several Swedish TV series and movies and served in the Swedish Marines. In 2003 (7 years ago) he was nominated for a Guldbagge for male supporting role in the movie Hundtricket - The Movie.

Since 2005 (5 years ago), with his performances in Revelations and The Last Drop, he has taken part in international productions. In 2007 (3 years ago) he played one of the main characters, Sgt. Brad Colbert, in the American miniseries Generation Kill. He is an original member of the ensemble cast of HBO's television drama series True Blood. Skarsgård plays the role of Eric Northman, the local vampire sheriff and owner of Fangtasia, a vampire bar.

In 2009 (last year), Skarsgård appeared in the music video for pop singer Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi". He also has three upcoming movies currently in post-production, Metropia, Beyond the Pole He is scheduled to star in the upcoming thriller, Straw Dogs, along with Kate Bosworth (13 walls) and James Marsden. It is a remake of the 1971 (39 years ago) movie. Filming is set to begin in Aug. 2009 (last year).

Skarsgård has been nominated for a 2009 (last year) Scream Award for "Best Villain" for his role as Eric Northman in True Blood.

Now I really wish I was covering this festival... In addition to MacGruber, Barry Munday, Kick-Ass, Leaves of Grass, James Franco's Saturday Night, Mr. Nice, and The Runaways, SXSW just announced they'll be hosting a special 'First Look' presentation of Predators. Producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal (Armored, Vacancy) will attend the March 12th preview at the Alamo Ritz Theater in downtown Austin, TX, and take part in a Q&A after the footage is screened. This new Predators was shot partially at Rodriguez' Troublemaker Studios and stars Adrien Brody as a mercenary who is trapped on an alien planet with a group of warriors. Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Laurence Fishburne also star in the action film which Fox is set to release in theaters this July. In addition, SXSW is going to host the world premiere of Géla Babluani's 13, the remake of the 2005 French film 13 Tzameti (which Babluani also directed), on March 13th at the Alamo South Lamar Theater. This version of 13 stars Jason Statham, Alexander Skarsgard, Mickey Rourke, Ben Gazzara, 50 Cent, and Ray Winstone. And in an interview in February 2009, Skarsgard talked about working on 13. "[...]It's a very intense script, very dark and extremely intense, obviously," said Skarsgard. "It's about this underground club where people...it's like people bet on...like they bet on horses but they bet on people playing Russian roulette instead." HBO rolled out the red carpet last night for the LA premiere of The Pacific, the Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks produced war miniseries that starts airing next month. Captain America Cast Update About.com Hollywood Movies - 24 days ago
What do we know for sure about The First Avenger: Captain America? Well, we know director Joe Johnston is looking to cast an American in the lead role. We know it'll be a PG-13 origin story that Johnston promises will be shot differently than most comic book inspired films. And at The Wolfman premiere director Johnston told me when I asked if he'll be signing up his cast soon, "Yeah, soon, we will. I promise you we will. We got a new draft of the script last night and it's fantastic. Even I want to see this movie." Those are all things we know for sure. Although there's much speculation and finger-crossing going on, no one really knows who'll be starring in the action film. But The Hollywood Reporter has uncovered a few interesting tidbits regarding potential Captain Americas. THR says John Krasinski (The Office), Michael Cassidy (Privileged), Patrick Flueger (Brothers), Scott Porter (Caprica, Dear John), and Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) are in the mix and will either be screen testing or have already been tested. THR also says Gossip Girls' Chace Crawford, who's attached to star in the Footloose remake which is currently in limbo, is still in the negotiation stage. And Garrett Hedlund of the upcoming Tron Legacy film could possibly be added to the list pending a resolution of his scheduling conflicts. Supernatural's Jensen Ackles was also apparently unavailable because of scheduling issues. Other names we've heard mentioned as potential Captain Americas that aren't on THR's screen test list include Ryan McPartlin, Jason Lewis, and Chad Michael Murray. If I had to vote I'd go with Vogel, Porter, Hedlund or Lewis. But I don't get to vote, and Marvel didn't go with my choice for Thor (I was rooting for Alexander Skarsgard), so it's likely the Captain America winner won't be one of my four preferences.
