Carrie Marie Underwood (born Mar. 10, 1983 (29 years ago)) is an American country pop singer and songwriter. She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol, she has since become a multi-platinum selling recording artist, a multiple Grammy Award winner, was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, and is the reigning Academy of Country Music Awards Entertainer of The Year.

Her debut album, Some Hearts, was certified seven times platinum, is the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. and is also the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history. Some Hearts yielded three number one hits on the Billboard Country charts in the United States and Canada: "Jesus, Take the Wheel", "Wasted", and her biggest hit to date, "Before He Cheats", and the #2 hit "Don't Forget To Remember Me", which also hit #1 on the "Radio & Records" country chart.

Her second album, Carnival Ride, was released on Oct. 23, 2007 (5 years ago). It has so far sold over 2.9 million copies, and produced four number one country hits on the Billboard Country charts , "So Small", "All-American Girl", "Last Name", and "Just a Dream", and the #2 hit "I Told You So", which also hit #1 on the Mediabase Portion of "Radio & Records" country chart. Underwood has sold over 9.7 million albums in the United States. She has sold 11 million albums world wide.

Carrie is set to release her third album (untitled as of yet) on Nov. 3, 2009 (3 years ago). The first single will hit the airwaves sometime this summer, 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville announced.

Early years

Carrie Marie Underwood was born to Stephen and Carole Underwood in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and was raised on her parents' farm in the rural town of Checotah, Oklahoma. She has two older sisters, Shanna and Stephanie and is a member of Muskogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma Her father, Stephen, worked in a saw mill while her mother was an elementary school teacher. During her childhood, Underwood had performed at Robbins Memorial Talent Show while also singing at the Free Will Baptist Church and later on for local events in Checotah, including Old Settler's Day and the Lion's Club. In 1996 (16 years ago), she was in the process of getting a contract with Capitol Records, but the deal was canceled when the recording company's management changed. She has said in recent interviews that after hearing the hit Clay Walker song, "Then What?", she knew a career in country music was her calling.

Education

Underwood graduated from Checotah High School in 2001 (11 years ago) as salutatorian. After high school, she attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, graduating magna cum laude in 2006 (6 years ago) with a bachelor's degree in mass communication and an emphasis in journalism. Underwood is a member of the Alpha Iota chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. For two years during the summer, she performed in Northeastern State University's Downtown Country show in Tahlequah. She also competed in numerous beauty pageants at the university and was selected as Miss NSU runner-up in 2004 (8 years ago).

Personal life

Underwood performed at halftime of the 2006 (6 years ago) Thanksgiving Day football game at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas and was friends with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. She attended his birthday party in Apr. 2007 (5 years ago), and on May 15, 2007 (5 years ago), he escorted her to the Academy of Country Music Awards. They were rumored to be dating off and on throughout 2007 (5 years ago). Although she denied the rumor when asked, Romo confirmed it. Romo was quoted as saying "...I'm dating Carrie Underwood" on his website. He also told an Illinois newspaper that they were dating.

In Aug. 2007 (5 years ago), Underwood had been rumored to be dating Chace Crawford of the American TV show Gossip Girl. On Oct. 4, 2007 (5 years ago), People magazine reported that the two were seen holding hands in New York City, though according to further reports, they ended their relationship soon afterward.

Underwood is currently dating Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher, and has been seen at recent Senator games on Feb 28 2009 (3 years ago). While attending a game against the Nashville Predators, Underwood was briefly caught on camera before ducking out of sight.
